Instructor Note:
We touched upon the market sizing “how many chocolate eggs Lindt sold this easter?” solving it from a top down and a bottom up approach
– Structure: recap, questions (if any), structure, approval, communicate numbers
– always argument every percentage you give in a market sizing
– top down is a demand approach (population, religion, age, income, market share of Lindt)
– bottom up is a supply approach (1 factory of lindt, people working, working hours and you extrapolate for all factories)
– some cases you use either and some cases you need to use both
– 90% of market sizing cases are solved using top down approach
– in the second case: how many electric toothbrush are sold annually in the UAE, one important factor to keep in mind is the lifetime of the product, let’s say 3 years, so when we get the total market size of electric toothbrush we divide it by 3 to get the market size per year.
Cases:
1. KSA just allowed women to get driving licenses, how many new licenses will be issues this year?
2. how many kgs of meat the restaurant “five guys” needs per year in the US?
